Cheeky cheesecakes and rockabilly hot-rod honeys make room in your boudoir’s armoire for Nicole Katherine Designs, the vintage-inspired retro, rockabilly and pin up clothing line from the same designer who first brought us the campy country western Betty Buccaneer Clothing.
Nicole Katherine’s original dresses and separates all embody her stylistic evolution toward more classic vintage silhouettes yet each piece retains her distinct and sassy mark, from the stunning and sophisticated gray suit dress ‘Elizabeth’ and the retro flamenco-style, circle-skirted ‘Bella Muerta’ dress with matching bolero, to the nautical ‘Armada Belle’ blouse with matching side-button pants, the ‘Lauren’ pencil skirt in gray (with or without contrast pocket flaps) and the classic 1940’s ‘Lindy Blouse’ (available in fabrics from solid rust to plaid).
A mother and passionate Sagittarius with fiery red hair, Nicole infuses each design with pure heart and soul and while she cannot personally hand-sew every garment, nothing she offers is mass produced.
Fashion-conscious from a young age, while growing up in Montana Nicole was appalled by the apparel available in stores. Dismayed that the rockabilly and punk styles she loved were nowhere to be found, she enlisted her grandmother to teach her to sew and by age 13 was regularly adapting dress patterns and tweaking thrift store finds to fabricate her own custom wardrobe.
A former psychology writer, Nicole Katherine became truly enthusiastic about original clothes design after creating her costumes for Irish Dance competitions. She learned advanced sewing and pattern drafting during a short stint at the Art Institute of Seattle then interned under Annamarie Von Foley of Revamp Vintage and is currently finishing a degree at the Fashion Institute of Design and Marketing in Los Angeles.
Nicole Katherine now splits her time between California and her hometown of Missoula, Montana, where she runs her studio out of her family’s aircraft maintenance hangar.
Nicole Katherine Designs are available online at her website, nicolekatherine.com and at selected sites like www.getgoretro.com, www.catslikeus.com and more. Prices for these handmade delights range from $45 to $175 and custom tailoring is a mere additional $10. International and wholesale orders are welcome, and clothing can be returned for store credit or exchange. For upcoming news and designs, follow her on Twitter and Facebook or subscribe to her blog.
